From Saturday 30 December to Tuesday 2 January there will be an awesome round of Premier League football, with fixtures such as Luton Town v Chelsea, Nottingham Forest v Manchester United (30 December at 14:30 and 19:30 respectively), Fulham v Arsenal (31 December at 16:00) and Liverpool v Newcastle United (1 January at 22:00).
Serie A will also feature prominently with a round on 29 and 30 December, headlined (and closed out) by a battle between Juventus and Roma at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday night (21:45). While the Bianconeri are looking to further establish themselves as contenders for the Scudetto, the Giallorossi are competing for a top-four finish – making this a key clash in the upper regions of the table.
“All games are worth three points, but some give us a bigger morale boost going forward. There’s a long way to go, but wins [in games] like this are important,” said Juventus captain Danilo.
La Liga also picks back up in the New Year, with a round played from 2 to 4 January, and the pick of matches sees Girona host Atletico Madrid at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi on the evening of Wednesday 3 January.
The Blanquivermells have been the surprise package of the 2023-24 season and will be further hoping to impress with a home win over the Rojiblancos – though coach Michel knows that his team will have to dig deep to continue their strong run.
“We must be clear that we will suffer because otherwise it will be impossible. It won't be possible to implement our idea from beginning to end, but it will have to be done in moments,” said the Girona boss.
There will also be thrills and spills from the WWE Universe, with live episodes SmackDown and Raw on the mornings of Saturday 30 December and Tuesday 2 January respectively – as superstars on the main rosters continue to jostle for position ahead of the Royal Rumble later in the month.
In addition, the Zambia Super League will also feature three matches on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 December: Zanaco v MUZA (29 December at 15:00), Green Buffaloes v Mufulira Wanderers and Red Arrows v Nkana (30 December at 13:00 and 15:00 respectively).
