There’s a derby to look forward to on Sunday, as Inter Milan take on their long-time rivals AC Milan in the ‘Derby Della Madonnina’. The current Scudetto champions are currently in second place on the log, with their opponents sitting in ninth place.
After a disappointing draw against Monza in an effort to rest key players for this derby and an important UEFA Champions League clash against Manchester City, Inter will be hoping it will all pay off in the end.
“We have to keep working and recovering because we have a lot of matches to come,” says Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi. The signing of Polish striker Piotr Zieliński is a hot topic at the moment after he made his debut, and Inzaghi seems positive.
“Zielinski is a quality mezzala, he will give us a lot this season: he came in well and is working well after a couple of small problems this summer,” he said about the player.
AC Milan have also made their fair share of signings during the transfer window, however with a new coach it is still a bit of an adjustment period as everyone involved makes an effort to gel well together.
The round of fixtures opens with a clash between Caligari and Empoli on Friday evening. Followed by Verona going up against Torino, start off your weekend right with some Friday night football adventures.
On Saturday, Venezia is set to play against Genoa, but the headlining fixture on the day is the matchup between Napoli and Juventus at the Allianz Stadium. Antonio Conte is still settling into his new job and with Victor Osimhen gone, Romelu Lukaku has successfully filled the void.
"I have always said that I wanted Romelu at Inter Milan, had also requested him at Chelsea before he went to Manchester United, because he is an atypical striker," Conte said. "He is extremely tall and physically strong, but also very good at sprinting forward. His condition is still nowhere near optimal, but he becomes fundamental for us."
Lukaku will be hoping to have his scoring boots on once again after he grabbed the Man of the Match award in the last round.
Aside from the big derby taking place on Sunday, Monza hosts Bologna and Roma will play against Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico. Monday closes off the round with Atalanta in action against Como in the evening.
